Stubborn

Last night when it was about time for my kids to wash-up before going to bed, I heard my oldest son being stubborn not to get out from the shower. He wanted to stay longer which we don't allow since its almost bed time and of cold weather.

He cried so much more when I interfere and when I saw that there is no chance for him to obey, I threaten him that I will spank him. It was so frustrating because he just kept on crying and did not even gave me a hint of obedience. And so I did what I had to do and finally he surrendered and obey.

Time is perfect because my husband is not home I was able to talk to him in our bed to explain his stubbornness and make him promise not to do that again.

Just like my son, we are sometimes (or should I say most of the time) showing the same attitude towards God. We are being stubborn and would insist to do things on our own even if the Lord is warning us or directly telling us not to do it.

I can't help but remember the stubbornness of the Israelites people towards God when they requested for a king (I Samuel 8:1-9). And though the Lord warned them through Prophet Samuel (I Samuel 8:10-22) they still insist on what they want. Because the Lord wants them to realize their actions, the Lord gave them what they want and gave Saul as their King. And you know the rest of the story. Yes. Everything happens as what the Lord had mentioned to Prophet Samuel and was conveyed to the Israelites in I Samuel 8:10-18.

You see, stubbornness and disobedience to God brings only disaster and failure in our lives. Who would ever forget man's first disobedience to God in which the consequences we bear to this day and will be carried out to our children and to our children's children.

And of course the lesson of obedience in the life of Abraham when the Lord asked him to kill and offer his only son as burnt offering to the Lord.

While disobedience brings disaster, obedience brings blessings. Everyday we are faced with this challenge and we are given the choice on how to respond to it.

In I John 5:3 it says,

True enough, obeying the Lord is not hard if we love the Lord genuinely.

We are not a kid anymore and I hope that our physical age aligns to our spiritual maturity. And as a mature Christians, the Lord expects us to be fully obedient to Him and in His word.
