Pray

What is the first thing that comes to our mind when we hear the word "pray"?
I know for some, I for example, it is "answer". And we know that there are 3 kinds of answers to our prayer, "yes", "no" and "wait". But I'm not going to discuss the same. What I want to emphasize here is what prayer means to us?
Is prayer a tool for us to tell our petitions and request to God or we see it as an opportunity to meet and to know God a little bit more.
No one can blame us if we see prayer as a venue to "ask". We grew up knowing that if we want something impossible to happen or if we are in need anything we just close our eyes and pray. It's good though but I think we have to make our prayer a little more interesting and innovative. And while we also use our prayer time to thank the Lord and ask for forgiveness (again "ask), let us not forget to see prayer as an opportunity to know God more through listening.
In my heart I believe that the Lord wants to speak to us through prayer. And so it is important that we also learn how to quiet ourselves in prayer and listen to God. Through listening we also tell to God that we are interested on what He is saying.
In James 1:19 it says that we should be quick to listen and slow to speak. This attitude can be applied in our prayer time. I'm not saying that we should not talk at all or talk less, what I just want to say is that listening is also important. It might be that the Lord has already answered our prayer but because we didn't listen, we missed out what He had to say. When we do that we immediately witness God's stand on the things that we are praying for which also allows us to see his magnificence and his wonderful works in our life.
They say pray until something happens. Now we know that when we listen something greater also happens.
